Vuyani Mlinde was a former member of the opera studios at Opera Queensland and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, where his roles included Leporello, and worked with conductors including Antonio Pappano, Daniel Oren and Semyon Bychkov. This South African bass joined the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt in 2010/11. During the 2012/13 season he will take part in our new production of Prokofiev’s Der Spieler/The Gambler and appear in revivals singing Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro, a Monk in Don Carlo and Colline in La Bohème. Other roles in Frankfurt have included the Speaker in Die Zauberflöte, Cesare Angelotti in a new production of Tosca and La Vengeance in a new production of Charpentier’s Médée in the Bockenheimer Depot. He is much sought after for concert work: recent engagements have included Haydn’s Die Schöpfung/The Creation under John Eliot Gardiner in the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Pisa Festival, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the London Symphony Orchestra in Paris, Madrid and London, and a concert at the 2012 Salzburg Festival. Places where he gained early operatic experiences included the Edinburgh International Festival (Verdi’s Macbeth) and Grange Park Opera (Prokofiev’s Die Liebe zu den drei Orangen/The Love for Three Oranges). This award winning artist has also sung Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte for Oviedo Opera in 2011/12, has appeared at Cincinnati Opera and has been engaged by the Houston Grand Opera (2012/13 Ferrando in Il trovatore and Colline).
