The bass Federico Sacchi will be singing the role of the Prince of Bouillon (role debut) instead of Magnús Baldvinsson (see article at the bottom of this page).
Federico Sacchi, who specialises in Italian roles, is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt in this new production. His international career, which began at the Opera Studio at Zurich Opera, has taken him to theatres all over the world, including those in Venice, Brussels and the Théâtre Champs Elysées in Paris.
ADRIANA LECOUVREUR
LEAR
The role of the King of France in the revival of Lear will now be sung by Thorsten Grümbel instead of Magnús Baldvinsson, both are members of the Ensemble at Oper Frankfurt.
GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG
The American bass Gregory Frank, a former member of the Ensemble in Frankfurt, sings the role of Hagen in the first run of Götterdämmerung performances and two cycles next summer, instead of Stephen Milling. He has sung many Wagner roles in the past, including Fafner and Hunding (Der Ring des Nibelungen) in Enschede and Daland (The Flying Dutchman) and Heinrich (Lohengrin) in Frankfurt, where other roles for the company included The Grand Inquisitor in Verdi's Don Carlo, Osmin, Boito's Mefistofele and Cherea in the world premiere of Detlev Glanert's Caligula.
OTELLO
The role of Cassio in the new production of Verdi’s Otello is being sung by Teodor Ilincai and Wookyung Kim and not Tiberius Simu. The Romanian tenor Ilincai’s international career really took after he sang Macduff in Verdi’s Macbeth in Hamburg in 2009. Recent engagements have included performances of Nabucco at the Vienna State Opera and La Bohème at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London.
Wookyung Kim has sung the role of Cassio at the Semperoper in Dresden, where he was a member of the ensemble from 2003-2007. Other theatres where he has performed include the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London and those in Munich, Berlin, Rome and Brussels.

Ensemble member Magnús Baldvinsson injured in an accident on stage
There was an accident on stage during the last performance of Don Giovanni on January 21st: ensemble member Magnús Baldvinsson, the Commendatore, was badly bruised and broke three ribs while being lowered horizontally through a trap door. This means that, unfortunately, he is not able to sing his roles in the new production of Adriana Lecouvreur (opens on March 4th 2012) or Lear (revival, opening March 10th 2012). Investigations are in progress internally to ascertain exactly what caused this accident to happen. We wish our greatly treasured ensemble member Magnús Baldvinsson a speedy recovery.
