The Croation mezzo-soprano Nina Tarandek was a member of Oper Frankfurt's Opera Studio before she joined the ensemble in 2012/13. During the 2014/15 season she sang one of the Sirens in the world premiere of Rolf Riehm's Sirenen – Bilder des Begehrens und des Vernichtens/Sirens – Scenes of Desire and Destruction, Kate in Britten's Owen Wingrave and is currently enjoying great success singing title role in Rossini's La Cenerentola. Roles for the company in recent seasons have included the Dark Woman (Reimann's Die Gespenstersonate/Ghost Sonata), 2nd Maid (Daphne), Antonia (d'Albert's Tiefland), Waltraute (Die Walküre), Aloès (Chabrier's L’Étoile), Tebaldo (Don Carlo), Cherubino (Die Hochzeit des Figaro/Le nozze di Figaro) and roles in concert performances of Maria Stuarda and La Rondine. She also sang the female lead role in Sciarrino's Luci mie traditrici (Bockenheimer Depot), a production first performed at the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte Montepulciano in 2010, the first ever performances of the work in Italy (available on CD and DVD). Nina Tarandek made her debuts at the Semperoper in Dresden and St. Margarethen Festival in 2012. Other guest engagements have included appearances at the Theater an der Wien, Volksoper Wien and the Teatro Teresa Carreño in Caracas. She appeared with the hr (Hessen Radio) Sinfonieorchester in the traditional annual New Year's Concert at the Kurhaus in Wiesbaden and took part in concerts in China with the Vienna Philharmonic in 2014. Her successes in competition have included 1st Prize at the 2006 Fidelio Competition in Vienna.
