Sharon Carty
Mezzo Soprano
Sharon Carty sang the role of Aloès for the first time last season, her second year in the Opera Studio at Oper Frankfurt. She now returns as a guest to sing the role again in the first revival. This mezzo-soprano studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the University for Music and the Performing Arts in Vienna (from where she graduated with distinction in 2010). She has also taken part in summer academies in Salzburg and Dublin and several master classes. She came to Bernd Loebe’s attention when he sat on the jury of the Opera Schloss Laubach summer course/competition, where she was a prize winner. Sharon Carty's repertoire includes the roles of Tebaldo in Don Carlo, 2nd Lady in Die Zauberflöte, The Woman in Salinen's Barabbas Dialogue and Flora in La Traviata (all of which she sang in Frankfurt), Suzuki (Madame Butterfly, 2012 in Dublin), Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Angelina (La Cenerentola), Ruggiero (Alcina), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Mrs Grose (The Turn of the Screw) and Hänsel. A recording of English Renaissance songs with the recorder quintet „Vuenv“ was released on CD in 2011.
