Simon Bode
Tenor
Simon Bode joined the Opera studio at Oper Frankfurt at the beginning of last season, during which he sang Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Graf von Lerma / A Herald in Don Carlo, a Priest in Die Zauberflöte, Servo in a new production of Sciarrino’s Luci mie traditrici (co-production with the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte in Montepulciano, where he sang the role in the summer of 2010 – first ever performances of this work in Italy - it was recorded on CD and DVD), Gunther (Wagner’s Die Feen/The Fairies, in concert), La Jalousie in Charpentier’s Médée and The Youth in Sallinen’s Barabbas Dialoge (both new productions). He opens the 2011/12 season with Victorin/Gaston in Die tote Stadt/Tue Dead City, which will be followed by Rodrigo in a new production of Otello and concert performances of Wagner’s Liebesverbot/The Ban on Love. His mother is Korean and his father German. He began studying singing at 17 and has won prizes at competitions, including the renowned „Hans Sikorski-Gedächtnispreis“ from the German Musikleben Foundation. After receiving sponsorship from the „Jürgen-Ponto-Stiftung“ for several years he was awarded scholarships by the Yehudi Menuhin „Live music now“ foundation and the „Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes“. His first experiences on stage included appearances at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Staatsoper in Hannover, the Staatstheater in Braunschweig and the Munich Philharmonie (recital: Schumann’s Dichterliebe). In 2009 he and his pianist Nicholas Rimmer won 2nd prize at the International Schubert Competition in Dortmund. He has also been heard several times on radio (NDR, BR). His first solo CD, Brahms Lieder with Graham Johnson, will be released by Hyperion Records in November 2011.
