Stephan Rügamer has been a member of the ensemble at the Berlin State Opera since 1999, where roles have included Alfred and Gabriel von Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus), Wagner’s Loge, David and Erik, Verdi’s Cassio and Macduff, Strauss’ Narraboth and Italian Singer in Rosenkavalier, Painter/Negro in Berg’s Lulu and Mozart’s Tamino, which he has also sung in Frankfurt. He has sung Alfred in this production of Die Fledermaus since the production was new. Other engagements in recent seasons have included performances at the Komische Oper in Berlin, the Staatsoper in Stuttgart, Semperoper in Dresden, the Aalto-Theater in Essen, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Bregenz Festival (Johann Strauß: Der lustige Krieg/The Merry War), Salzburg Festival, the Théâtre du Châtelet (Matteo in Arabella), La Scala Milan (Loge), the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona (Marquese in The Gambler), at in St. Petersburg (Loge conducted by Valerij Gergiev). He has been heard often on radio and his discography is extensive.
