Robert Hayward
Baritone
Robert Hayward is currently singing Tchaikovsky’s Mazeppa at the Komische Oper in Berlin and his next engagement this season after Lohengring in Frankfurt will be Méphistophélès in The Damnation of Faust at the Stuttgart State Opera. His most recent appearances at Oper Frankfurt were singing the title role in Bluebeard’s Castle in 2010/11 (which goes on tour to this year’s Edinburgh Festival). Roles here in recent seasons have included the title role in Dallapiccola’s Il prigioniero, Simone in Zemlinsky’s Eine florentinische Tragödie/A Florentine Tragedy and Friedrich von Telramund in Lohengrin in the first run of performances of this production in 2008/09. This British bass baritone has sung at many opera houses all over the world, including Welsh National Opera in Cardiff, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and English National Opera in London, at the Houston Grand Opera, the New Israeli Opera, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and the Württembergische Staatstheater in Stuttgart. His broad repertoire includes the roles of Amfortas (Parsifal), Figaro and Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Marcello (La Bohème), Escamillo (Carmen), Golaud (Pelléas et Mélisande), Tomski (Pique Dame), Jochanaan (Salome), Dr. Schön (Lulu, available on CD), Ford (Falstaff), Jago (Otello), Scarpia (Tosca), Nick Shadow (The Rake’s Progress), Wotan / Der Wanderer (Ring) and the title roles in Verdi’s Macbeth, Falstaff, Der fliegende Holländer/The Flying Dutchman and Eugen Onegin.
