Martin Mitterrutzner

Tenor

Martin Mitterrutzner
Martin Mitterrutzner made his debut at the 2012 Salzburg Festival singing Brighella in Ariadne auf Naxos under Riccardo Chailly. This season he will be singing in new productions of Humperdinck’s Königskinder, Prokofiev’s Der Spieler/The Gambler and Mozart’s Idomeneo as well as repeating his wonderful portrayal of Alfred in Die Fledermaus. This young tenor from the Tirol joined the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt after being a member of the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck for five years. Other roles here in his first season were Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) and Ferrando (Così fan tutte). Martin Mitterrutzner made his first performances on stage at the tender age of 10, singing the 1st Boy in Die Zauberflöte under John Eliot Gardiner and made his operatic debut aged 19 singing Ottokar in Brigitte Fassbaender’s production of Der Zigeunerbaron/The Gipsy Baron at the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck. A year later he won 1st Prize at Austria’s „prima la musica“ competition and, aged 23, was awarded the Vienna State Opera’s Eberhard Wächter Medal. In 2012 he made his debuts at Oper Frankfurt, singing Squeak in Billy Budd, at the Bucharest State Opera, with Ferrando, and Zurich Opera, singing Tamino. He is also much sought after for concert work and his repertoire ranges from early to contemporary music. He has already given his first recital.
