Maren Favela has received a scholarship from the ArteMusica foundation since July 2011 and is now in her second year at Oper Frankfurt’s Opera Studio. Roles here in the main house during the 2012/13 season include Barbarina in Die Hochzeit des Figaro/Le nozze di Figaro and Ninetta in the new production of Die sizilianische Vesper/The Sicilian Vespers. Born in Mexico City in 1985 and raised in Germany this young soprano studied at the Highschool for Music in Würzburg from 2005-2009 with Prof. Cheryl Studer before training with Prof. Hedwig Fassbender at the HfMDK in Frankfurt. She has also taken part in masterclasses held by Margreet Honig and Kai Wessel. Her repertoire includes Dafne (Apollo e Dafne at the 2011 Handel Festival in Karlsruhe), Gretel (co-production between the HfMDK and Frankfurt Orchestergesellschaft in the Saalbau Titus-Forum 2010), Echo (Ariadne auf Naxos), Susanna and Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Despina (Così fan tutte), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), 2nd Lady and Papagena (Die Zauberflöte 2008 and 2009 in the Orangery at Residenz Würzburg) as well as the Young Shepherd and 2nd Page (Tannhäuser 2009 at the Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg).
