Kihwan Sim
Kihwan Sim spent a year in the Opera Studio before joining the ensemble last season. During the 2013/14 season he will sing A Footman in Ariadne auf Naxos, Phorbas in Enescu's Oedipe, Gualtiereo (Edgar konzertant), Gottardo in Die diebische Elster/The Thieving Magpie - all new productions - Jean Procida in Die Sizilianische Vesper/The Sicilian Vespers and Angelotti in Tosca. Other roles in Frankfurt have included the title role in Die Hochzeit des Figaro/Le nozze di Figaro, George Talbot (Maria Stuarda, in concert), Colline (La Bohème), Quinault (Adriana Lecouvreur), Herald (Otello) and the Duke of Albany (Reimann's Lear). This bass baritone, who was born in Seoul and studied at the Yonsei University School of Music and Hochschule for Music and Theatre in Hamburg, has enjoyed great success at many intnerional singing competitions, including the 2009 „Neue Stimmen/New Voices“ in Gütersloh, the 2010 „Paris International Opera Competition“ and 1st prize at the 2011 „Concours Régine Crespin“ in Paris. He made his professional debut in Germany with the title role in Le nozze di Figaro in Darmstadt. Other engagements earlier in his career included Leporello (Don Giovanni) in the KNUA Concert Hall in Seoul, Mozart's Figaro and Handel's Pallante (Agrippina) in the Arts Hall of the Korean Broadcasting Company and Masetto at the 2011 Savonlinna Opera Festival.
