During the 2015/16 season Kihwan Sim, a former member of the Opera Studio who joined the Ensemble in 2012/13, will sing roles including Mozart's Figaro, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor, repeat his wonderful portrayal of Gottardo in the recent new production of Die diebische Elster/The Thieving Magpie (available on CD – OehmsClassics), the title role in concert performances of Verdi's Oberto and Tiridate in Handel's Radamisto and Zuniga in Carmen - both new productions. He will also make his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, singing Colline in La Bohème, a role he then sings at Cologne Opera. Roles for which this Korean born bass-baritione has enjoyed great success in Frankfurt have included Rodolfo (La sonnambula), the King (Euryanthe) and Masetto (Don Giovanni). Kihwan Sim made his debut in Germany in 2010, singing Mozart's Figaro in Darmstadt. This was followed by other engagements, including Masetto at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, Leporello (Don Giovanni) in the KNUA Concert Hall in Seoul, Mozart's Figaro and Handel's Pallante (Agrippina) in the Arts Hall of the Korean Broadcasting Company and Jean Procida, a role sang in Frankfurt in 2013, in The Sicilian Vespers at Nice Opéra. Awards won by this bass-baritone, who studied in Seoul and Hamburg, have included prizes at the »Neue Stimmen« competition in Gütersloh, the »Paris International Opera Competition« and the international »Concours Régine Crespin« competition in Paris.
