David Alden
David Alden is one of the most sought after directors in the world. He had directed new production of Chabrier's L’Étoile and Schreker's Der Schatzgräber at Oper Frankfurt before he returned to direct this Rossini opera in the 2013/14 season. He recently worked at the Teatro Real in Madrid for the first time - a new production of Alcina. His productions of Jenůfa (Olivier Award) is being revived at English National Opera in London, Peter Grimes (South Bank Show Award) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Rossini's Maometto II (which first opened at Santa Fe Opera) is going to the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto. Born in America, David Alden works regularly at leading opera houses in Europe and the United States, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Chicago Lyric Opera, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and Nationale Opera in Amsterdam. Recent productions have included Otello and Pique Dame at ENO, Khowanshchina at Opera Vlaanderen Antwerp / Ghent and three early Verdi operas: La battaglia di Legnano, I due Foscari and I lombardi alla prima crociata at the Hamburg State Opera. Films directed by David Alden have included Kurt Weill's Seven Deadly Sins. He was engaged by the BBC to produce a documentary about Verdi and staged a world tour for the Pet Shop Boys. He was awarded the Bavarian Theatre Prize in 2001.
