David Alden's most recent production at Oper Frankfurt was Chabrier's L’Étoile in 2010/11. His first for the company was Schreker's Der Schatzgräber/The Treasure Seeker in 2002/03. This American artist is one of the leading directors in the world. He recently directed three early operas at the Hamburg State Opera - La battaglia di Legnano, I due Foscari and I lombardi alla prima crociata and, in 2014, Billy Budd at the Deutschen Oper Berlin. David Alden made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1979, with Wozzeck. Films have included Kurt Weills The Seven Deadly Sins. He was commissioned by the BBC to make a Verdi documentary, and staged a world tour for the Pet Shop Boys. Awards have included the South Bank Show Award for Peter Grimes (English National Opera, De Vlaamse Opera Antwerp / Gent and Deutsche Oper Berlin), an Olivier Award for Jenufa (co-production between ENO, Houston Grand Opera and Washington National Opera) and the Bavarian Theatre Prize in 2001.
