Vera Nemirova
Opera director Vera Nemirova, who was born in Sofia and has lived in Germany since 1982, made her debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2006/07 with Tannhäuser. She directed this new Ring des Nibelungen between 2010 and 2012. This is the second revival, which coincides with the release of DVDs of the Ring. She studied direction at the „Hanns Eisler“ High School for Music in Berlin and has worked free-lance all over the world since 1998. Productions in recent seasons have included Un ballo in maschera at Theater Basel (2012), Antigona by Tommaso Traetta at the Staatsoper in Berlin (2011), Lulu at the 2010 Salzburg Festival, Pique Dame and Verdi’s Macbeth at the Vienna State Opera, Peter Ruzicka’s Celan in Bremen, La fanciulla del West at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Weber’s Euryanthe and Verdi’s Otello at the Semperoper in Dresden, La Bohème and Idomeneo at the Staatstheater in Mainz, Rigoletto and Manfred Gurlitt’s Wozzeck at Lucerne Theater, Le nozze di Figaro at the Latvian National Opera in Riga, Gounod’s Faust, Verdi’s Macbeth and L’elisir d’amore at Bonn Opera and Fidelio at Graz Opera. She returns to Bonn in 2013 for a new production of Tristan und Isolde. Also in 2013 she will direct Der fliegende Holländer in St. Petersburg and Lohengrin in Basel. Vera Nemirova’s awards have included the 2006 Berlin Culture Prize - a prize supporting the performing arts from the Academy of Arts.
