Lance Ryan
Lance Ryan, one of the most sought after Heldentenors in the world, is singing the role of Tristan for the first time. He made his debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2009/10 as Apollo (Daphne) and returned for Siegfried in our new Ring and the title role in Otello. Earlier this season he sang the title role in Tannhäuser and will be back again in June to sing Midas in concert performances of Strauss' Die Liebe der Danae. Other engagements in recent seasons have included Don Alvaro (La forza del destino), Samson (Samson et Dalila) and Max (Der Freischütz at Cologne Opera. He returns to the Bayreuth Festival in the summer of 2014 to repeat his performances of Siegmund in three Ring cycles, a role he has also sung in Berlin, Munich, Milan, Barcelona and the BBC Proms in London, and other places. This Canadian artist, who studied with, amongst others, Gianni Raimondi and Carlo Bergonzi, began his career in Italy, where he won the 2002 AsLiCo competition. He sang the roles of Otello, Andrea Chénier, Cavaradossi (Tosca), Calaf (Turandot) and Enzo (La Gioconda) for the first time when he was a member of the ensemble in Karlsruhe. Lance Ryan has worked with many leading conductors, including Christian Thielemann, Zubin Mehta, Ulf Schirmer, Kirill Petrenko, Gustavo Dudamel, Kent Nagano and Daniel Barenboim.
