Lance Ryan, who made his debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2009/10 as Apollo in a new production of Daphne and who sings the title role in a revival of Otello here at the end of February, is one of the most sought after heldentenors in the world. Born in Canada he began his career in German repertoire as a member of the Ensemble in Karlsruhe. He has enjoyed enormous success with the role of Siegfried at the Salzburg Easter Festival, the Maggio Musicale in Florence, the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, in Strassbourg, Ghent, at the Expo in Shanghai (on tour with Cologne Opera), at the Bavarian State Opera, the Bayreuth Festival and, in 2011, at Oper Frankfurt. Future plans include Siegfried at the Berlin State Opera and La Scala conducted by Daniel Barenboim, at the 2013 Bayreuth Festival under Kirill Petrenko, the Palau de les Arts in Valencia under Zubin Mehta and the Deutsche Oper Berlin under Sir Simon Rattle and Sir Donald Runnicles. Lance Ryan’s repertoire includes Siegmund, Lohengrin, Erik, Florestan, the Kaiser (Die Frau ohne Schatten), Calaf, Don José, Samson and Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos), which he recently sang at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He will return to Oper Frankfurt in coming seasons for other Wagner roles.
