Jochen Schmeckenbecher
Baritone
Jochen Schmeckenbecher is a regular guest at international opera companies and concert halls. Engagements in 2013 include Peter in a new production of Hänsel und Gretel in Paris and his first Jago (Otello) with the Gulbenkian Orchester in Lisbon. He is back to sing Albericht again in these Ring cycles at Oper Frankfurt, where he made his debut in 2010 as Amfortas. Other recent triumphs have included Alberich (Das Rheingold) with the RSB under Marek Janowski in the Berlin Philharmonie and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Siegfried), the Marquis de la Force (Les Dialogues des Carmélites) at the Bavarian State Opera, Kurwenal (Tristan und Isolde) in Lyon and Dr. Kolenaty (The Makropoulos Case) at the Salzburg Festival. He will be singing Kurwenal and Dr. Kolenaty at the Bastille in Paris. Other roles in this German baritone’s repertoire include the Music Teacher in Ariadne auf Naxos (places where he has sung the role include the Met, La Scala Milan and the Berlin, Dresden and Vienna state operas), Wozzeck (in Barcelona, Hamburg and Madrid) and Faninal (Der Rosenkavalier in Berlin and San Francisco).
