Meredith Arwady made her European operatic debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2008/09, singing Ulrica in Verdi's Ein Maskenball/Un ballo in maschera. She returned to the company for Erda, a role she sang at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 2013, and 1st Norn in the new Frankfurt Ring. She sang Mistress Quickly in the first run of this new production of Falstaff. This is a role she sang recently at San Francisco Opera, where she has sung the Princess in Suor Angelica, Zita in Gianni Schicchi and the Marquise of Berkenfield in La Fille du Régiment. Roles in 2014 included Erda at the Houston Grand Opera, Madame de Croissy (Dialogue of the Carmelites) in Saint Louis and Death (Le Rossignol) and Fräulein Krone (Der Schauspieldirektor/The Impresario) in Santa Fe. Other engagements during the 2014/15 season include Martha in Adams’ The Gospel According to the Other Mary at English National Opera in London. Conductors with whom she has worked have included Alan Gilbert, Lorin Maazel, Christoph Eschenbach and Patrick Summers. Awards won by this American artist include 1st prize at the 2004 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the 2005 Kirsten Flagstad Award (for being the most promising Wagner singer). She can be heard on a recording of John Adams’ opera Dr. Atomic, which won a Grammy Award for best recording in 2012.
