Meredith Arwady, who sang Erda for the first time in Frankfurt and sings the role again, and the 1st Norn, in these cycles, will sing Erda at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in April 2013. Awards have included winning the 2004 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the 2005 Kirsten Flagstad Award (as most promising Wagner interpreter). After making her European debut at Oper Frankfurt (as Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera) engagements included the Princess in Suor Angelica, Zita in Gianni Schicchi and the Marquise von Berkenfield in La Fille du Régiment at San Francisco Opera, Pasqualita in John Adam’s Dr. Atomic and the Marquise von Berkenfield at the Met. She also enjoyed a real triumph in the title role in Peter Sellar’s 2011 new production of Vivaldi’s Griselda in Santa Fe.
