Meredith Arwady
American contralto Meredith Arwady made her European debut at Oper Frankfurt during the 2008/09 season, singing Ulrica in Ein Maskenball/Un ballo in maschera. She returned to sing Erda, a role she then sang at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 2013, and 1st Norn in our new Ring. She recently sang the role of Mistress Quickly at San Francisco Opera, where roles in the past have included the Princess in Suor Angelica, Zita in Gianni Schicchi and the Marquise von Berkenfield in La Fille du Régiment. Other engagements during 2014 include Erda at the Houston Grand Opera, Madame de Croissy (Dialogue of the Carmelites) in Saint Louis, Death (Le Rossignol) and Fräulein Krone (Mozart's Der Schauspieldirektor/The Impresario). Conductors with whom she has worked have included Alan Gilbert, Lorin Maazel, Christoph Eschenbach and Patrick Summers. She won the 2004 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and 2005 Kirsten Flagstad Award (as a very promising interpreter of Wagner), Meredith Arwady also sang in a recording of John Adams’ opera Dr. Atomic, which won a Grammy Award in 2012.
