Johannes Erath's first production at Oper Frankfurt was Eötvös' Angels in America, which was followed by Otello, this production of Giulio Cesare in Egitto and, last season, Weber's Euryanthe. Future projects include Un ballo in maschera at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and his debut at the Bregenz Festival, with Srnka's chamber opera Make No Noise. He works regularly at Opera Graz, where he has directed Lulu, Don Giovanni, Elektra, Die tote Stadt/The Dead City and Lohengrin, a production which was staged at Olso Opera in 2015. Other engagements in recent seasons have included La traviata and The Cunning Little Vixen at the Hamburg State Opera, Eötvös’ paradise reloaded (Lilith), Schedl's Triptychon at the Neue Oper in Vienna and Aida at Cologne Opera. Johannes Erath's production of Massenet's Cendrillon at Theater Bern won the 2008 Götz-Friedrich-Preis. After studying the violin Johannes Erath began his career as a member of the orchestra at the Volksoper in Vienna and the Vienna Philharmonic's Orchestra Academy before concentrating on direction.
