Andreas Kriegenburg
Andreas Kriegenburg, who made his debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2010/11 with this production of Tosca, recently directed Rigoletto at the New National Theatre in Tokyo. Other recent engagements have included a new Ring at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich in 2012. He directed his first operas in 2006: Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice and Mozart's Idomeneo at the theatre in Magdeburg, where he was born, Berg's Wozzeck at the Bayerische Staatsoper and Verdi's Otello at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. He was under contract to the Volksbühne in Berlin, the Niedersächsische Staatstheater Hannover, the Burgtheater in Vienna and Thalia Theater in Hamburg before taking on the position of House Director at the Deutsche Theater Berlin. The ten best productions of the year, selected by a jury of critics, are asked to perform at the Berliner Treffen every May. Productions by Kriegenburg which have been invited in recent seasons include: Aischylos’ Orestie (2002), Hebbel's Die Nibelungen (2004), Chekhov's Drei Schwestern/Three Sisters (2006) and Kafka's Der Prozess/The Trial (2009). His production of Die Nibelungen won the Nestroy Theatre Prize for the best production in Germany in 2005 and a 3sat (television channel) Innovation Prize for his »Forward Looking Achievements«. His production of Das letzte Feuer/The Last Fire at the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg won a 2008 »Faust« Theaterpreis. He has also directed Der Diener zweier Herren/The Servant of two Masters (2010) and Stella (2011) at Schauspielfrankfurt.
