Davide Damiani
After making his debut at Oper Frankfurt last season with the role of Michonnet in this production of Adriana Lecouvreur Davide Damiani went to the Grand Théâtre de Genève in June 2012 to sing the title role a new production of Verdi’s Macbeth, directed by Christof Loy and conducted by Ingo Metzmacher. Engagements in 2013 include Rodrigo (Don Carlo) at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw, Don Carlo di Vargas (La forza del destino) at Theater St. Gallen and Scarpia (Tosca) at Theater B asel. This Italian artist made his operatic debut as a baritone in 1993 (title role in Don Giovanni) in Tel Aviv. Two years later he joined the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera where, over a period of four years, he enjoyed great success with roles including Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Belcore (L´elisir d´amore), Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Créon (Enescu’s Oedipe, available on CD), De Siriex (Giordano’s Fedora, with Plácido Domingo) and Comte de Toulouse (new production of Verdi’s Jérusalem, recorded for TV, with José Carreras and conducted by Zubin Mehta). His repertoire also includes the roles of Rigoletto, Jago, Germont and Nabucco. He enjoys a busy career as a free-lance artist which has taken him on a regular basis to opera companies in Italy, those in Cardiff, Toronto, Palm Beach, Basel, Graz, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Brussels and Tel Aviv, to the Salzburg, Vienna, Amsterdam, Wexford, Split, Aix-en-Provence and Jerusalem festivals and to Tokyo.
