Sebastian Zierer
Sebastian Zierer studied conducting at the music high schools in Freiburg and Frankfurt am Main. Whilst still a student he assisted at Cologne Opera and conducted the Freiburg Student Orchestra. He has since worked with Philharmonie Südwestfalen, the Stuttgart, Pforzheim and Mannheim chamber orchestras and Polish Chamber Philharmonie in Danzig, where he has conducted several concerts and works by composers including Beethoven, Chopin and Webern. From 2006-2008 he assisted regularly at the Hessen Youth Orchestra. He is the holder of a Richard-Wagner-Verband scholarship and the Kai-Uwe-von-Hassel prize from the Regensburger Domspatzen Foundation for his services to music. After receiving his diploma in 2008 he began working as a soloists’ coach at Oper Frankfurt, where conductors he has assisted have included Sebastian Weigle, Kirill Petrenko and Bertrand de Billy. In 2010/11 Sebastian Zierer conducted the first ever performances in Germany of Aulis Sallinen’s Barabbas-Dialoge in Frankfurt. Last season he conducted Stravinsky’s Die Geschichte vom Soldaten/A Soldier’s Tale and two performances of Die Zauberflöte.
