Kwangchul Youn gave unforgettable performances of Philipp II when our production of Don Carlos first opened. He is a regular guest at leading opera houses and festivals all over the world, including the Vienna State Opera, Covent Garden in London, the Met in New York and the Salzburg Festival. He sang Herman, Daland and Hunding at the 2014 Bayreuth Festival.

wonderful production of FALSTAFF is back

next performance October 3rd

Keith Warner's production of Falstaff opened last February. Now it is back with Jonathan Lemalu, who enjoyed great success here last season in the new production of Rossini's Thieving Magpie in the title role.

Hänsel und Gretel - new production

opens on October 12th at 6pm

Keith Warner directs a new production of Hänsel und Gretel, Humperdinck's best known opera, which was composed in Frankfurt! One member of the wonderful cast is the young British, award winning, soprano Louise Alder (Gretel, see photo), who joined the ensemble this season. Conductor is GMD Sebastian Weigle.

DATE CHANGE: JULIA KLEITER'S RECITAL IS OCTOBER 21st

and NOT May 19th 2015

Julia Kleiter sings Lieder by Brahms, Mahler & Schubert, accompanied by pianist Michael Gees and clarinettist Jens Bischof. This German soprano's career took off after she sang Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) at the Opéra Bastille in 2004. She has appeared at leading opera houses around the world and sang Emma in Schubert's Fierrabras at the 2014 Salzburg Festival.

Otello with ELZA VAN DEN HEEVER

from November 8th

An early tip to be sure to get tickets for Otello, because the cast is so wonderful! Elza van den Heever is back to sing Desdemona again, with Vincent Wolfsteiner (who joins the Ensemble next season) making his house debut with the title role. Cassio is sung by triple Operalia prize winner Mario Chang - currently singing Rodolfo in La Bohème.
November 8, 15, 20, 23, December 5, 13 & 19, which all begin at 7.30pm

MARIO CHANG wins 2014 OPERALIA competition

sings Rodolfo in La Bohème

Mario Chang made his debut at Oper Frankfurt (as a new member of our Ensemble) on September 5th. He has just won 1st Prize, the Zarzuela Prize AND the Audience Prize at Plácido Domingo's Operalia competition, probably the most important competition in the world. So don't miss the chance of hearing him as Rodolfo in our revival of La Bohème (see next News item for more information). Other roles here this season are Cassio (Otello), Edwin (Die Csárdásfürstin) and the Italian Singer (Rosenkavalier).
