Opera for Families 2012/2013

The very popular Opera for Families series stimulates children’s and young people’s fantasy and creativity. This project, which is only made possible by very generous support from our sponsors, makes it easy for families to enjoy an opera together. Every adult purchasing a ticket can apply for THREE FREE TICKETS (subject to availability) for children and young people under the age of 19. Operas in the series are family friendly.

Engelbert Humperdinck’s fairy tale opera Königskinder/Royal Children does not have a happy ending but is still one of the most beautiful operas of the turn of the century. This new production, conducted by General Music Director Sebastian Weigle, tells the heart breaking story about a love that is destined to fail. Masterpieces by two Italian composers are also on offer: Verdi’s La Traviata and Don Carlo and Puccini’s La Bohème all emotional works about the power of love. Come and find out more by bringing your family to one of the Opera for Families afternoon performances.

These events, which we hope will make such a strong impression on young people that they will want to come again, enhance our substantial education programme.

We thank the Deutsche Bank for their generous support over the years – it is they who have made this series possible.
