Franz-Josef SeligFranz-Josef Selig is internationally established as one of the finest basses in the world for roles such as Gurnemanz, King Marke, Sarastro, Rocco, Osmin, Daland, Fiesco and Fasolt. Early on in his career he spent six years as a member of the Ensemble at the Aalto Theatre in Essen. He now appears at leading opera houses all over the world, including the Vienna State Opera, Royal Opera Covent Garden, La Scala Milan, the Staatsoper in Hamburg, Opéra de la Bastille and Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the Metropolitan Opera New York, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. Franz-Josef Selig made his debut at the 2012 Bayreuth Festival as Daland in Der fliegende Holländer/The Flying Dutchman, where he will be returning in the summer of 2013 for Hunding in Die Walküre. Although he is much in demand for opera and concert work he still makes time for recitals, one of the most recent took place at the Opéra National de Paris.
