Marta Herman joins the Opera Studio at Oper Frankfurt at the beginning of the 2012/13 season after taking part in international courses for new music in Darmstadt during the summer of 2012. This Canadian mezzo-soprano has already built up a broad and varied repertoire which includes works by contemporary composers such as Salvatore Sciarrino, György Kurtág and Kaija Saariaho as well as the more obvious roles such as Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Marquise du Berkenfield in La fille du régiment and Miss Jessel in The Turn of the Screw. Awards include a spedial prize at the 2010 Riccardo Zandonai International Vocal Competition. She obtained a Master of Music in Operatic Performance from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Music, and Gold Medal, from the University of Western Ontario.
