José Luis Gómez
José Luìs Gómez is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt. This Spanish/Venezuela born artist won the 2010 Sir Georg Solti International Conducting Competition, since when he has been workring intensively with the hr (Hessen Radio) Sinfonieorchester. He was recently named Principal Conductor of the orchester at the Teatro Social di Como, where he has conducted performances of Le nozze di Figaro. Other engagements this season include La Cenerentola at the Stuttgart State Opera and concerts with other renowned orchestras. José Luìs Gómez began his music career as a violinist, becoming the leader of an orchestra at the age of 11. He studied music and violin at the conservatory in Maracaibo, where he was born, and at the der Manhattan School of Music in New York. This was followed by conducting lessons with Lu Jia, Muhai Tang and John Nelson. José Luìs Gómez won the Sir Georg Solti competition only six months after he began taking conducting lessons. Winning this prize also brought him work with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the RTVE National Symphony Orchestra in Madrid, the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Ottawa, the Houston Symphony Orchestra and the Basel Sinfonietta.
