Björn Bürger made his debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2012/13 singing Nicholas in Barber's Vanessa before joining the ensemble last season. This season he sings Schaunard in La Bohème, Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos, the title role in Britten's Owen Wingrave, Dandini in La Cenerentola and Masetto, again, in last season's wonderful new Loy production of Don Giovanni. He and the soprano Louise Alder gave a joint recital here in October, replacing a singer who cancelled at very short notice. He also sings Papageno in Die Zauberflöte at the Opéra Bastille in Paris and will make his debut at the Norwegian Opera in Oslo in 2015, with the title role in Don Giovanni. Other roles in Frankfurt have included Curio (Giulio Cesare in Egitto), Larkens (La fanciulla del West), Bengtsson (Reimann's Die Gespenstersonate/Ghost Sonata), Graf von Vaudemont (Die Sizilianische Vesper/The Sicilian Vespers), Astolfo (Orlando furioso) and Papageno. Björn Bürger studied at the HfMDK Frankfurt with Prof. Hedwig Fassbender. Roles sung whilst still a student included King Argante (Rinaldo) at the Handel Festival in Karlsruhe and the the leading role of Victor Hugo in the world premiere of Eine Kapitulation at the Festival of Young Artists in Bayreuth. He made his debut at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva in a Christof Loy production of Verdi's Macbeth in 2012. Björn Bürger won 1st prizes at Germany's 2012 Nation Wide Singing Competition, SWR's 2013 Emmerich Smola Competition and the 2013 Anneliese Rothenberger Competition.
