Jonathan Darlington
Conductor
During his career Jonathan Darlington has worked with many first class ensembles, most recently the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin, l’Orchestre National de France, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and l’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. During the last decade this British artist has enjoyed great success as Music Director of Vancouver Opera and Chief Conductor of the Duisburg Philharmonic (he was awarded the City of Duisburg’s Music Prize and an Echo Klassik for the best recorded concert, with Susanna Yoko-Henkel, 2011). Jonathan Darlington started his career as a chamber musician and recital accompanist before working as a soloists’ coach for opera companies, at Radio France, and as assistant to the music director when the Opéra Bastille opened in 1991. Operatic projects during the 2012/13 season include Tea: a Mirror of Soul by Tan Dun in Vancouver, Orlando and La clemenza di Tito at the Semperoper in Dresden and Zemlinsky’s A Florentine Tragedy/The Dwarf at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. Next season he make his debut at the Vienna State Opera, conducing Madama Butterfly. Jonathan Darlington was named „Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres“ by the Académie française and was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music in London.
