The British artist Jonathan Darlington is conducting this, the first, revival of Richard Jones' production of Die Sache Makropulos / The Makropoulos Case at Oper Frankfurt, where he enjoyed great success with a new production of Barber's Vanessa and performances of Falstaff. Recent engagements have included Rigoletto, Die Fledermaus and Don Carlos at Vancouver Opera, where he is Music Director. He is currently conducting performaces of Die Zauberflöte at the Semperoper in Dresden. In July 2016 he will round off his Mozart Da Ponte cycle at Opera Australia in Sydney, with Così fan tutte. He appeared at the Vienna State Opera for the first time during the 2013/14 season, conducting Madama Butterfly. This former Chief Conductor of the Duisburg Philharmonic and Deputy Music Director of the Opéra Bastille in Paris has won many awards, including an ECHO Klassik in 2011 and the Mercatorplakette and Musikpreis from the City of Duisburg. He was given the title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres. Jonathan Darlington's career was strongly influenced by time spent working with Olivier Messiaen, Pierre Boulez and Riccardo Muti.
