Mark Shanahan
Mark Shanahan returns to Oper Frankfurt, where he has conducted Tosca, Death in Venice, Simon Boccanegra, Nabucco and, last season, Adriana Lecouvreur. This Irish conductor trained at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester and the Royal Academy of Music in London. His career got off to a good start after he won first prize at the NAYO conducting competition. Mark Shanahan is a regular guest at leading opera houses around the world and he works regularly with the finest European orchestras. He enjoys specially close relationships with the Nederlands Symfonieorkest (1st Guest Conductor) and Forest Philharmonic Orchestra (Artistic Director). He recently conducted La clemenza di Tito in Marseille and Jenufa in Lille. In recent seasons he has conducted at theatres including English National Opera, Opera North in Leeds, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, De Nationale Reisopera, Nantes-Angers Opera (Jenufa, which won the 2007 Claude Rostand Critique Award).
