Calin Bratescu is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt. He sang the role of Maurizio in concert at the 2010 Timisoara Opera Festival. This Romanian tenor won the 2003 "Ludovic Spiess" prize and has enjoyed great success at other international competitions including the "Hariclea Darclée" (2003), "Città di Alcamo" (2004), "Traian Grozavescu" (2004, 2006) and "Francisco Viňas" Barcelona (2006). He has appeared as a regular guest at the National Opera in Bucharest since 2003, where he has sung roles in many operas including Die Zauberflöte, Lucia di Lammermoor, I Capuleti e i Montecchi, La Traviata, Falstaff, Faust, Carmen, Werther, La Bohème, Tosca and Madama Butterfly. He has also appeared at most of Romania’s other opera companies, with many of the country’s leading orchestras and has taken part in regular international tours, most recently with Norma. Other recent engagements have included Julien in a new production of Charpentier’s Louise at the Opéra National du Rhin in Strassbourg, Pollione in Norma at the Greek National Opera in Athens, Macduff (Macbeth) at the Opéra de Bordeaux, Enzo (La Gioconda) at Timisoara Opera, Cavaradossi (Tosca) at Cologne Opera and Don José (Carmen) for several Italian opera companies. He will sing Don José at Opéra de Toulon in October 2012.
