David Bösch
The first operas David Bösch directed were Orlando furioso in Frankfurt and L’elisir d’amore at the Bayerischen Staatsoper in Munich. These were followed by Mitridate and Das schlaue Füchslein/The Cunning Little Vixen in Munich. He studied at the Highschool for Music and Theatre in Zurich and was house director of Schauspiel (drama) Essen in 2005/06 before going to Bochum in 2010/11 as the theatre’s leading director. He staged Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in Bochum in 2004 and directed the first new production under Anselm Weber’s Intendanz at Schauspiel Essen in 2005 - Ein Sommernachtstraum/Midsummer Night’s Dream. In 2006 he won the Salzburg Festival’s „Young Directors Award“ for Viel Lärm um nichts/Much Ado about Nothing (Thalia Theater Hamburg). He has also directed plays by Büchner, Hauptmann, Schiller, Goethe and contemporary playwrights and recent engagements have included, amongst others, Kabale und Liebe at the Schauspielhaus in Zürich (which was invited to the 14th Internationalen Schillertagen in Mannheim), Grillparzer’s Das Goldene Vließ/The Golden Fleece at the Deutsche Theater in Berlin, Goethe’s Urfaust at the Myeongdong Theater in Seoul in 2011 (an invitation from the Goethe Institute) and Dea Loher’s Adam Geist and, 2012, Henrik Ibsen’s Ghosts at the Burg Theater in Vienna.
