David Bösch
David Bösch, who joined the Burgtheater in Vienna at the beginning of the 2013/14 season, directed his first operas in 2009/10: Orlando furioso at Oper Frankfurt and L’elisir d’amore at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. These were followed by Mitridate, Re di Ponto and The Cunning Little Vixen in Munich, Idomeneo at Theater Basel and Humperdinck's Königskinder in Frankfurt (live recording available (OehmsClassics) - voted »Disc of the month« by the UK's Opera magazine). In 2014 he directs Simon Boccanegra at Opéra Lyon and Monteverdi's L’Orfeo at the Munich Opera Festival. After studying at the Academy for Music and Drama in Zurich he joined the Schauspiel in Essen in 2005/06 as house director before moving to Bochum in 2010/11 to be leading house director. Other theatres where he has worked in recent seasons have included the Schauspielhaus in Zurich (works included: Kabale und Liebe, which was invited to the 14th International Schillertagen in Mannheim), the Deutsche Theater Berlin (works included: Grillparzer's Das Goldene Vlies/The Golden Fleece) and the Myeongdong Theatre in Seoul / Korea (2011 Goethe's Urfaust, at the invitation of the Goethe Institute). He won the 2006 Salzburg Festival »Young Directors Award« for his production of Much Ado about Nothing at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg.
