David Bösch
David Bösch, who returns to Frankfurt in the 2015/16 season for a new production of Der fliegende Holländer/The Flying Dutchman, has recently directed Schreker's Die Gezeichneten in Lyon. Future projects include Alcina at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva, Elektra at the Aalto Theater in Essen, Idomeneo at the Vlaamse Opera Antwerp / Ghent, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Muninch and Il trovatore at Covent Garden. One of the first operas he tackled was Orlando Furioso, at Oper Frankfurt in 2009/10. After studying in Zurich he moved to the Schauspiel (straight theatre) in Essen as house director in 2005/06, before taking up the posts of chief director in Bochum (2010/11) and the Burgtheater in Vienna (2013/14), where he will direct Werner Schwab's Die Präsidentinnen / The (female) Presidents and Anton Chekhov's Drei Schwestern/Three Sisters in the 2015/16 season. Other places where David Bösch has worked have included the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, the Deutsche Theater in Berlin and the Myeongdong Theater in Seoul. He won the Salzburg Festival's 2006 »Young Directors Award« for his production of Much Ado about Nothing.
