Nikolay Borchev
Nikolay Borchev made his debut at Oper Frankfurt when he stepped in at short notice to sing Dandini in La Cenerentola in 2008/09. This Russian baritone studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Prof. Maria Ariya and Pavel Lisitsian before going to the »Hanns Eisler« Highschool for Music in Berlin to work with Prof. Julia Varady and Heinz Reeh. Whilst still a student he won prizes at many international competitions. Nikolay Borchev joined the ensemble at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich in 2003, where roles have included Papageno, Guglielmo, Figaro (Rossini), Dandini, Belcore, Marcello, Harlekin, Dr. Falke and Barbier (Die schweigsame Frau). Conductors with whom he has worked include Zubin Mehta, Marcello Viotti, Kent Nagano, Sebastian Weigle, Bertrand de Billy, Thomas Hengelbrock, René Jacobs and Helmut Rillig. Other recent engagements have included Haydn’s Die Schöpfung/Creation at the Great Mountain Music Festival in Seoul and John Cage’s Europeras at the 2012 Ruhrtriennale. During the coming season roles include Belcore (L'elisir d'amore) and Dr. Falke (Die Fledermaus) at the Vienna State Opera, Claudio (Béatrice et Bénédict) at the Theater an der Wien and Malatesta (Don Pasquale) at the Glyndebourne Festival.
