Julia Juon
Mezzo-soprano
Julia Juon’s most recent roles in Frankfurt were Frugola, La zia principessa and Zita in Il trittico and La Nourrice in Ariane et Barbe-Bleue. This Swiss artist is one of the world's most renowned singers in the dramatic mezzo-soprano fach. She has sung, for example, regularly in Hamburg: Brangäne in Ruth Berghaus’ famous production of Tristan und Isolde and Waltraute, under Gerd Albrecht, in Günter Krämer’s Ring, Kundry at the Semperoper in Dresden, the Opéra Bastille (alongside Plácido Domingo) and Oper Frankfurt (2006) and Mary in Der fliegende Holländer/The Flying Dutchman in Barcelona conducted by Sebastian Weigle. Other highlights have included Countess Geschwitz in Lulu in Copenhagen (available on CD, Chandos) and at the Opéra Bastille, the Amme/Nurse (Die Frau ohne Schatten) in Frankfurt, Hamburg, Madrid, New York (Metropolitan Opera), Barcelona and Helsinki, Schreker’s Der ferne Klang at the Vienna State Opera and Berlin Philharmonie (also available on CD) and Herodias (Salome) in Bologna, Triest, Dublin, Leipzig, Wiesbaden and Montpellier.
