Christian Pade’s most recent production for Oper Frankfurt was Sciarrino’s Luci mie traditrici in the Bockenheimer Depot. This was a co-production with the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte di Montepulciano, where the first performances ever in Italy took place (DVD available: EuroArts). Other productions for the company were Pique Dame, The Turn of the Screw and the world premiere of Glanert’s Caligula. Christian Pade is well known as an artist working in both drama and opera. He began studying direction and acting at the Otto Falckenberg School in his home town of Munich before working at the Munich Kammerspiele, assisting Dieter Dorn and Hans Lietzau, amongst others. He then directed productions at houses including the state theatres in Stuttgart, Hannover and Kassel and Schauspiel Frankfurt. He was also a member of the management at Theater Bremen, where he recently directed Gerhart Hauptmann’s Einsame Menschen/Lonely People. Other operas directed by Christian Pade include Boris Godunow in Dresden, Mathis der Maler in Hamburg, Fidelio and Lucia di Lammermoor in Dortmund, Henze’s Elegie für junge Liebende/Elegy for Young Lovers and Die Fledermaus at the Berlin Staatsoper and the world premiere of Lucia Ronchetti’s Neumond/New Moon at the Nationaltheater in Mannheim.
