Clive Bayley
Bass
Clive Bayley is a regular guest at leading opera houses throughout the world singing roles in works ranging from Monteverdi, Verdi and Puccini to Berg, Britten and Birtwistle. This bass made his debut a Oper Frankfurt in 2007/08 singing John Claggart in a new production of Billy Budd and returned to the house in October 2013 for Dosifei in a revival of Khovanschina. Other engagements in 2013 include Sir Walter Raleigh in a new production of Britten’s Gloriana in Hamburg and at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, where he has sung many roles in the past in La Bohème, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, La fanciulla del West, Cyrano de Bergerac, Iphigénie en Tauride and Die Walküre since he made his debut there in the world premiere of Harrison Birtwistle’s Gawain. Recent engagments have included Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and Dikoj (Katja Kabanova) at Welsh National Opera, the Four Villains in The Tales of Hoffmann and Daland (The Flying Dutchman) at English National Opera, the Doctor in Wozzeck at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and Hunding (Die Walküre) at Opera North. Other triumphs have included roles in Glyndebourne, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Toulouse, Lausanne, Seattle and San Francisco.
