Claus Guth's productions of Daphne (2010) and Pelléas et Mélisande (2012) at Oper Frankfurt both won FAUST Production of the YearTheatre Prizes. His productions here in earlier seasons were Verdi's Un ballo in maschera and Puccini's Il trittico and He will be back in 2014/15 for another new production. His directed Schubert's Oratorio-Fragment Lazarus in December 2013 at the Theater an der Wien, where he has staged Il ritorno d’ Ulisse in patria and Handel's Messiah. Plans for 2014 include Così fan tutte at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Claus Guth works regularly at Zurich Opera, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (where operas have included the world premiere of Oehring's SehnSuchtMeer/Sea of Longing), the state operas in Munich, Hamburg (including Wagner's Ring), Berlin (the world premiere of Oehring's AscheMOND/Moon of Ash, or The Fairy Queen) and Vienna and at the Bayreuth and Salzburg festivals (where works have included Berio's Cronaca del Luogo, Gluck's Iphigénie en Tauride, Czernowin's Adama and Mozart's Zaide, Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte). Claus Guth was born in Frankfurt and studied philosophy, German and theatre at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and theater and opera direction at Bavaria's August Everding Theatre Academy.
