Claus Guth's productions of Daphne (2010) and Pelléas et Mélisande (2012) at Oper Frankfurt both won FAUST Production of the Year Theatre Prizes. Earlier projects for the company were productions of Verdi's Ein Maskenball/Un ballo in maschera and Puccini's Il trittico. Recent engagements have included the world premiere of Oehring's AscheMOND or The Fairy Queen and The Turn of the Screw at the Staatsoper in Berlin. Claus Guth returns to the Salzburg in 2015 for Beethoven's Fidelio. Other future projects include L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Theater an der Wien, Rigoletto at the Opéra Bastille in Paris and Martinů's Julietta at the Staatsoper in Berlin. Born in Frankfurt, other places where he directs on a regular basis include the state operas in Munich, Hamburg (including Wagner's Ring) and Vienna, Zurich Opera, La Scala Milan (where productions have included Die Frau ohne Schatten and Lohengrin), the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and the Bayreuth Festival (Der fliegende Holländer). Claus Guth studied philosophy, German and theatre in Munich and direction at the Bavarian August Everding Theatre Academy.
