Paul Gay

bass-baritone

Paul Gay
The French bass baritone Paul Gay made his debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2003/04 as the Animal Trainer/Athlete in a new production of Lulu, and returned in later seasons to sing Leporello (Don Giovanni), Klingsor (Parsifal) and Enrico VIII (concert performances of Anna Bolena). Golaud is a role with which he enjoyed great success in Lyon in 2004 and will be singing again in a new production at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels in 2013 directed by Pierre Audi. Other recent engagements have included Gounod’s Méphistophélès and Comtes des Grieux (Manon) in Paris, Nick Shadow (The Rake's Progress) in Saint Étienne, a Ravel double bill - L'Heure espagnole and L'Enfant et les Sortilèges - at Glyndeboure conducted by Kazushi Ono and extracts from works by Jacques Offenbach conducted by Marc Minkowski at the Bremen Konzerthaus – a programme that will also be performed at the Cologne Philharmonie and Oper Dortmund during the 2012/13 season. Other future engagements include Don Alfonso (Lucrezia Borgia) in Brussels and Achilla (Giulio Cesare in Egitto) at the Opéra National de Paris. Paul Gay studied at the Conservatoire in Paris with Robert Dumé before being taught by Kurt Moll at the Musik hochschule in Cologne.
