Hilary Summers’ repertoire ranges from 12th to 21st century music. She recently sang the role of Geneviève at the Teatro Real in Madrid, directed by Robert Wilson. Other roles central to her repertoire include Baba the Turk (The Rake’s Progress), Gaea (Daphne), Mrs Sedley (Peter Grimes) and Handel heroes such as Giulio Cesare. Other engagements in 2012/13 include Handel’s Acis e Galatea at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna and Théâtre des Champs Élysées. Several composers were fascinated by her extraordinary range, including Elliot Carter (What Next), Peter Eötvös (Le Balcon), Pierre Boulez (Le Marteau sans Maître, Grammy Award for a Deutsche Grammophon recording) and Michael Nyman (title role in Facing Goya and several sound tracks). She made her debut in Frankfurt with George Benjamin’s Into the Little Hill in 2007/08 in the Bockenheimer Depot, which was part of an international tour.
