Alice Coote, one of the world’s leading mezzo-sopranos, returns to Frankfurt to sing Lieder from the Belle Époch and Poulenc, following on from her stunning recital (Winterreise) here a few seasons ago and her unforgettable portrayals of Sesto, Charlotte and Marguerite for the company.
She is a regular guest at many venues, including the Wigmore Hall in London, the Royal Albert Hall, BBC Proms, in London, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and the Lincoln Centre and Carnegie Hall in New York. She has sung Schubert’s Winterreise in Chicago and Mahler’s Lied von der Erde with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and in Amsterdam. She is acknowledged throughout the world as one of the finest interpreters of Gustav Mahler, Hector Berlioz, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and many other composers, whose works she has performed with many leading orchestras (including the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Radio Symphony Orchestra and New York Philharmonic) conducted by world famous conductors.
Alice Coote’s operatic repertoire includes the title roles in Ariodante, Poppea and Carmen, Penelope in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria, Charlotte in Massenet’s Werther, Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutte. Future plans include Leonore in Donizetti’s La Favorite in Paris, Sesto in Giulio Cesare at the Met in New York and Nicklausse/Muse in The Tales of Hoffmann at San Francisco Opera. Her discography includes a recording of English songs (The Power of Love), The Composer in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos (Chandos), Monteverdi’s Orfeo (Virgin Classics) and Handel’s Die Wahl des Herkules. She can also be heard and seen on DVDs of Handel’s Messiah (EMI), Hänsel und Gretel (Hänsel), L’incoronazione di Poppea (Nerone, Decca) and as Maffio Orsini in Donizetti’s Lucretia Borgia (Medici Arts).
