Matthias Rexroth
Matthias Rexroth was the first male alto, to date, to have won the Francesco Viñas Competition in Barcelona, where he also received an award for being the best countertenor, and the Belvedere Competition in Vienna, where he also received an additional eight special prizes. He was seen and heard by millions when he sang in Bach’s B minor mass with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, one of the events to celebrate the Bach year, which was broadcast world wide on television and radio. His repertoire includes some title roles in Handel operas: he sang Giulio Cesare at the Norwegian State Opera in Oslo, Ottone and Admeto at the Handel Festival in Halle (which earned Matthias Rexroth a nomination for a „Faust“ – German theatre prize - , and the CD was nominated for a „Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik“ (prizes awarded for recordings by critics). He will be returning to Frankfurt in late May 2013 for another Handel new production – Arcane in Teseo in the Bockenheimer Depot, where he sang Ozias in de Almeida’s La Giuditta in 2009/2010. His debut at the Semperoper in Dresden is scheduled for 2014.
