Next season he will sing the role of the Judge in our new production of Rossini's Die diebische Elster/The Thieving Magpie). This baritone has been closely involved with the house since 1975 and was named Kammersänger here in 1993. His roles here since 2002/03 have included Benoît (La Bohème), Schigolch (Lulu), Pistola (Falstaff), the Sacristan (Tosca), An old man (Bloch's Macbeth), the Circus Director (Die verkaufte Braut/The Bartered Bride) and Konrad Nachtigall (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg). He began his career in the choruses at the Hamburg State Opera and Bayreuth Festival. The first theatre he joined as a soloist was Kaiserslautern in 1962, which was followed by periods in Detmold and Mainz. Guest engagements have included appearances in Hamburg, Cologne, Stuttgart, Bonn, Berlin, Brussels and Peking. Carlos Krause has been running the Opera Academy in Bad Orb since 1990.
