Omer Meir Wellber
Omer Meir Wellber makes his debut at Oper Frankfurt in the 2012/13 season conducting the last revival of this production of La Traviata. Born in Israel in 1981, and a former assistant to Daniel Barenboim and Asher Fisch he is now regarded as one of his country’s most talented musicians in. He came to a lot of people’s attention when he conducted Aida at the Israel Opera in Tel Aviv – part of a historically important tour of Israel with the Orchestra della Scala. Some of Omer Meir Wellber’s compositions have been performed in Israel and in other countries by orchestras and ensembles. and some have been broadcast on the radio. In 2011 he took over from Lorin Maazel as Music Director of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia. He also enjoys a close releationship with the Raanana Symphonette Orchestra as their music director. His extensive programme during 2012 included La vida breve, Tosca and Rigoletto in Valencia, La Traviata at the Berlin Staatsoper, the Festwochen in Vienna and the Munich Opera Festival, Aida at La Scala Milan, Carmen and L’elisir d’amore in Venice and Verdi’s Macbeth in Verona. Later this season engagements include I due Fascari and Il barbiere di Siviglia in Valencia, Otello in Tel Aviv and Aida in Verona. He will be returning to Oper Frankfurt for a new production.
