Aleksandra Kurzak
Soprano
The Polish soprano Aleksandra Kurzak is making her debut in Frankfurt. Places where she has sung Violetta include Warsaw and the Staatsoper in Berlin. She is one of the most sought after singers in the world. After her professional debut as Mozart’s Susanna, which she sang alongside her mother and teacher Jolanta Żmurko, as the Countess, she joined the Hamburg State Opera where she was a member of the ensemble from 2001-2007. During this time she also began performing regularly at the Metropolitan Opera in New York (debut as Olympia in The Tales of Hoffmann) and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (including a triumph as Matilde in Matilde di Shabran). Her first role at La Scala was Gilda in Rigoletto in 2010, where she returned in 2011/12 for Susanna. Her international career has taken her to the Munich and Vienna state operas, the Arena di Verona, Salzburg Festival and to other cities including Valencia, Madrid, Cardiff, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. During the 2012/13 season engagements include Violetta and Gilda in Warsaw, Marie in La fille du régiment at the Vienna State Opera, Adina in L’elisir d’amore in Barcelona and Gilda in Zurich.
